Consultant - Jonathan Blanshard
Jonathan Blanshard graduated in medicine from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London. His basic surgical training was in plastic surgery, orthopaedics and accident and emergency followed by specialist ENT training in Bristol and the South West.
He has been an ENT Consultant at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital since 1996, where he has introduced higher surgical training into the department and forged links with the adjacent department at Frimley Park Hospital to offer a comprehensive service locally. He has an interest in hearing problems in adults and children, including tinnitus and vertigo, as well as holding voice clinics with the assistance of a speech therapist. He developed the local Bone Anchored Hearing Aid service in response to the need of patients who are unable to tolerate a normal hearing aid.
He is particularly experienced in surgery to improve hearing and the treatment of mastoid disease, including reconstructive and revision surgery. This stems from time spent during his training in Australia at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, a centre renowned for its expertise in mastoid reconstructions. While there he gained valuable experience of extensive head and neck cancer surgery and advanced reconstructive techniques.
He is Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Hampshire Clinic and closely involved in management at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital as the Clinical Lead for the DTC and Ambulatory Care. He is the Secretary for the Ark Company who run the Ark www.arkcentre.com , a charitable education, training and conferencing centre at the Basingstoke Hospital. In the past he has worked in Guinea and Bangladesh for Charities involved in ENT surgical services and training in the third world. He has had articles published widely on all aspects of ENT and in particular on ear related matters.
